Text Roleplay Online Where the Game Master Responds Instantly — Day and Night
Twilight Reach is a text roleplay by post in a shared fantasy world. You write what your character does and says, and the AI game master describes what happens around you and speaks for all the inhabitants of the world. No need to wait a week for a co-player's reply, no need to search for a chat — the roleplay starts in a minute and goes at your pace.
What is text roleplay and how ours is different
Text roleplay is collaborative storytelling. One player writes a post for their character, another responds for theirs or for the world, and from these posts a plot unfolds. This is how people play in Discord servers, on roleplay forums, and on Reddit. The main problem with all such roleplays is known to every roleplayer — a co-player disappears, the game master burns out, and the plot freezes midway.
In LitRPG, the game master doesn't disappear. That role is played by an artificial intelligence that knows the rules of the world, remembers what happened to your hero, and responds in a couple of seconds. You write a post — even one line, even a paragraph in literary style — and immediately get the scene's response, the lines of the inhabitants, and the consequences. But the world here is not disposable — hundreds of other players' heroes live in it at the same time.
How roleplay works
First, you create a character — name, gender, race (human, elf, dwarf, orc, or half-breed), class (warrior, ranger, mage, rogue, cleric), and appearance. The appearance is fixed — the hero's portrait is drawn once, and then they look the same everywhere, only the clothes change when you change outfits.
Then you just write. "I approach the bar, put down a coin, and quietly ask the innkeeper who left for the north yesterday." The game master will respond for the innkeeper, describe how he looks at the coin, and maybe tell you what he wouldn't tell others. There are two types of moves — "Say" for a line and "Action" for a deed. There are move hints if you don't know where to start.
You can roleplay in first or third person — this is chosen when creating the hero. For those who don't like typing, there's voice input — speak, and the game will transcribe the text itself.
- Free actions — you can do anything a living person would do in this world: bargain, lie, spy, heal, court, argue.
- Real consequences — an offended NPC will remember, a stolen item will be sought, and a given word will have to be kept.
- Dice rolls decide disputed moments — like in tabletop roleplaying, but the System rolls the dice, and the result is visible.
Literary roleplay and semi-roleplay communication
Text is valued here. The more vividly you write, the richer the game master's response — he picks up the intonation, details, mood. Fans of literary style can write long posts with descriptions and inner monologue. Those who prefer semi-roleplay communication can play with short lines, like in a chat. Both ways work.
Every scene is recorded. From your playthrough, you can later assemble a real book — chapters with a cover in fb2, epub, and pdf formats — or a movie with voices and music. What you roleplayed doesn't disappear in a chat feed.
A shared world instead of an empty chat
The world of Twilight Reach is an island with villages, cities, roads, caves, and ruins. When one of the heroes first reaches a new place, it appears on the map for everyone. All discovered places can be viewed on the world page, and recent events — in the Chronicle.
Other players are here too. You can see them in a location, send them a private message, gather a party, strike a deal, or challenge them to a duel if both sides agree. So text roleplay here is both solo and shared — however you prefer.
Who this game is for
For those who love text roleplay but are tired of searching for a co-player and waiting for a reply. For those who read LitRPG and want to find themselves in a world with a System, levels, and loot. And for those who write and want the story to continue on its own as long as there's inspiration. The game is for adults, 18+, all characters are adults.
You can start for free right in your browser, on your phone or computer — no download. If you want to come up with a hero first, try the character sheet generator.
Questions and answers
Is this a real text roleplay or a chatbot?
This is a roleplaying game with rules — the hero has stats, levels, items, gold, and quests, and the world is shared by all players. The AI here plays the role of a game master who runs the scene according to these rules.
Do I need to find a co-player?
No. The game master always responds. But live players are also around — you can play together with them if you want. More details on the find roleplayers page.
How much does it cost?
You can start for free. For long-term play, there's a System subscription for a week, month, or year, and tokens for images and videos.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. The game opens in your phone's browser, with a large input line and voice input.
What happens to my story?
It's saved. From your playthrough, you can assemble a book or a movie.
